COVID Course Financial Assistance Application and Information

In response to the economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Continuing Education at the University of Utah has identified these courses that residents of Utah can benefit from. In addition, financial support is being provided to qualifying students so that they can participate free of charge. If you are a legal resident of Utah and are now un- or under-employed due to COVID 19, you are qualified for these courses. High school level courses do not have to demonstrate un- or under-employment.

Please note the 5 digit class number that you are registering for in the list below, then fill that into the form when indicated.

*All financial assistance will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

ACT Test Preparation

Test Preparation at the University of Utah is now enrolling students into ACT courses for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. The cost of these courses is covered through COVID course financial assistance for qualifying students.

Youth Education

Youth Education at the University of Utah is now enrolling students into online winter break camps offered in partnership with Learning Through Robotics and The Paint Mixer. The cost for these courses is covered through COVID course financial assistance for qualifying students and families.

The English Language Institute

The English Language Institute will be offering no cost evening English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for the Fall 2020 semester. These courses are not affiliated with the Zions ESL course.

  • Levels will range from beginner to intermediate, which will be determined by an online placement test, which you can register for at the link below.
  • For each course, a qualified ELI instructor will teach a combination of grammar, reading, listening, speaking and writing.
  • Each course will be a hybrid of in-person and online instruction. Masks and social distancing will be maintained at all times in the classrooms. A limited number of laptops will be available for students to check out during the semester.
  • Interested students must first take an online placement test to evaluate English proficiency. To receive a link for the online test, students must be able to attend an ESL course during at least one of the following 4-week sessions.

Each session will meet Monday through Thursday. Students must commit to attending at least ONE FULL session to receive financial assistance.

  • Session 2: Sept. 21 – Oct. 15

  • Session 3: Oct. 19 – Nov. 12

  • Session 4: Nov. 16 – Dec. 11 
    Option 1: 4-6 p.m. Option 2: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Promoting Access to High Schoolers (PATHS) Program

These courses are only available to students currently participating in the Promoting Access to High Schoolers (PATHS) program. Classes and workshops are still being solidified, but will consist of a mix of workshops and classes that will prepare students to graduate high school and advance to higher education, or attain a meaningful career.

Professional Education

Professional Education at the University of Utah is offering no cost in-demand, short-term educational programs for furloughed, laid-off, or dislocated workers, as well as underserved or other populations affected by COVID-19. These courses have been identified for Utah residents with financial support provided to qualifying students so that they can participate free of charge. If you are a legal resident and are now un- or under-employed due to COVID 19, you are qualified through COVID course financial assistance. Spots in each class are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. These courses are delivered entirely online. Some you can complete at your own pace, others will use real-time instruction. Please refer to each class for their specific start dates and class times.
